What Buddy can do
Buddy works inside the site’s own environment, with the same tools a developer would have. Out of the box, on every site, it can:
Work on the site itself
Section titled “Work on the site itself”- Read and change any file in the site: pages, templates, themes, plugins, code, styles, images.
- Run commands in the site’s environment: install packages and plugins, run the platform’s own tools (WP-CLI, Composer, Drush, Artisan, npm, Shopify CLI, Netlify CLI), run tests and builds.
- Work with the database: query it, fix data, import and export it.
- Start, stop and restart the site when it needs to.
- Check its work against the running site at its preview address.
Find things out
Section titled “Find things out”- Search the web and read pages, to research a topic, check documentation, or look at a competitor.
- Read your files: anything you upload to Artifacts, from spreadsheets and PDFs to briefs and photos.
- Look through past conversations on the site, to pick up where someone left off.
Make things for you
Section titled “Make things for you”- Write and edit content in the voice your instructions describe.
- Produce reports, exports and drafts as files in Artifacts, for you to open, download or share.
Keep you in the loop
Section titled “Keep you in the loop”- Email the people on the site. Buddy can send an email to the site’s owner, the teammates it is shared with, and its viewers by email, and to nobody else. Handy for a scheduled task’s weekly report. A card in the chat shows each email it sent.
- Ask you when it needs to. A question card in the chat, with answers to pick from.
Look after the site over time
Section titled “Look after the site over time”- Take checkpoints before risky work, and tell you how to undo.
- Propose scheduled tasks for routine jobs, which run once you say yes. See scheduled tasks.
- Remember your standing rules in the site’s instructions.
- Write skills from work that went well, so it goes better next time. See skills.
Add more
Section titled “Add more”- Skills give it know-how for a platform or a kind of job.
- Integrations give it access to your services: analytics, search consoles, ad accounts, CRMs, storage, GitHub, servers, and a real browser for screenshots.
What Buddy can’t do
Section titled “What Buddy can’t do”- Reach other sites. Buddy on one site cannot see or touch any other site, in your organization or anyone else’s.
- See your credentials. Integrations add passwords and keys to Buddy’s requests on the way out; Buddy never has them.
- Email strangers. Only the people on the site.
- Change your live site on its own. Buddy works on the site in Site Buddy. It only reaches a live site or account through an integration you have connected (GitHub, Shopify, Netlify, SSH, Remote WordPress).
