Chat and modes
The chat is where you work with Buddy. Each conversation keeps its history, so Buddy remembers what you already discussed in it.
The mode picker beside the message box sets how Buddy approaches your message. In every mode Buddy works on its own: it does not stop to ask permission for each step.

| Auto | Picks the approach for you: answer, look, plan or build. The default, and right most of the time. |
| Chat | Just talks: answers and ideas from what is there. Runs and changes nothing. |
| Analyze | Digs into data (logs, analytics, the database) for insights. Changes nothing. |
| Plan | Thinks the work through and writes a plan. Builds nothing. |
| Build | Makes or changes something, without asking first. |
A common rhythm: ask in Plan mode for a plan, read it, then switch to Build and say “go ahead”.
While Buddy works
Section titled “While Buddy works”- The chat shows each step: files read, commands run, pages checked. A long step shows what it is doing right now.
- The bar above the message box has three tabs: Tasks (Buddy’s working list), Agents (helpers Buddy started) and Files (every file changed in this conversation).
- You can keep typing. A message sent while Buddy is busy waits its turn.
- Stop ends the current work. Changes already made stay; use a checkpoint to undo them.
- When Buddy needs a decision from you, it asks with a short question card. Pick an answer or type your own.
Press the microphone beside Send, or Ctrl+Shift+D (Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac), and speak. Your words are typed into the message box for you to check before sending.
